Official White House photographer? AWESOME job.

Today I...

...have a lot of crap to do at work.
...brushed my hair.
...am not wearing any makeup.
...am angry with myself for buying scented tampons. AGAIN.

But seriously yo there was a dude at the grocery store standing in front of the shelf of tampons that I wanted and staring at them intently so, not wanting to get in his way, I just quickly grabbed what I though was the correct box and went on my merry way. And then after opening the box that oh-so-familiar scent wafted out of it and something inside of me died just a little.

So yeah. My purse smells like tampons. FREAKIN' AWESOME.

I have pictures to post but I need to crop them and stuff. Will get around to that. Soon.

Back to the garage after a long absence. Green windbreaker I've been overwearing and flat sandals I'm unsuccessfully trying to break in before the cruise (coming up in about a month!) since right now I have the ugliest mosquito bite ever on my foot. Whenever I get mosquito bites on my legs/feet they turn into fatty blisters and yeah. Pretty nasty.

I look so much better with my face covered.

Desaturated this photo since it seemed appropriate. Hm.

Random thought: For anyone that has the opportunity to live on their own, I highly recommend it. I don't really live on my own anymore and I'm extremely happy to be essentially cohabiting with VV, but living alone was an awesome experience. Do it when you have the chance!

Vegas...THE END (almost)

Guess who got off of her lazy ass and FINALLY sorted out the rest of her Vegas pics? If you guessed ME then you're totally right and deserve a gold star (but I don't have any so you're not getting one). Unless by "me" you actually meant "you" which means you're not totally right unless you also just finished sorting and editing your Vegas pictures in which case I guess you're technically right but you don't deserve a gold star BECAUSE THIS BLOG IS ABOUT ME, NOT YOU.

Anyway. On with the show!

Highlights from Day THREE.

The buffet @ Rio is a circus

  • HUNGRY FACE (why oh why did I not upload that photo?)
  • Brunch buffet!
  • Drinking in the AM (yayy unlimited mimosas)!
  • Denise getting crabs

In the purple

  • Exotic ice cream @ Vosges

l) "she looks like an egg!"

  • Refreshing, much needed naps

Learned from past experience

  • Ghetto cooler
  • Having a corkscrew!
  • Rancho Sisquoc wine! (Again, may have only been a highlight for me)

Soju Queen says "tastes like water"

  • Soju with soda (procured from a hotel vending machine no less)

trying to avoid crotch shots

  • Jumping on the bed(s)
  • BRING BACK THE FANNY PACK

triptastic

  • On our way to Studio 54
Promoter: So it's just going to be the five of you?
Lina: Err...there's only four of us.
  • Couple of interesting dudes in the club, one of which was apparently trying to "figure each of us out". I AM INSCRUTABLE (or at least my dancing is (is that a good thing?)).

Technically this wasn't the last day, but the following day consisted of us dragging our extremely tired asses out of bed at 6-6:30ish to wash up, pack up, and make our morning flights.

That is all!

Happy 26th to Christylicious!

And Dannoballs too!

UGH

Been feeling so fat and lazy and so not in the mood for doing anything with my photos...hence the lag in Vegas-ish updates. Too many pictures to sort through, edit, resize.

I need to get back to the gym. I think I went a total of ONCE last week and haven't gone at all this week which is not cool.

Don't know what to write. Meh. Will update some other time.

Does "overpriced but worth it" even make sense?

So since I'm too lazy to cull and edit more Vegas photos (at least right now) I'll just write about the awesome chocolate that I bought in Vegas.

We actually made it out to Vosges! Yaaay! We got ice cream and Lina and I both bought boxes of truffles. She got the 9 pc. dark chocolate and I got the 16 pc. exotic to take to the office and (sort of) share with my coworkers. I'd tried all of the dark chocolate flavors in my box already but hadn't tried any of their milk chocolate flavors so I told my coworkers that those were off-limits unless there's a duplicate. I'm such a greedy bitch :)

The truffle in the foreground of my photo is the Viola, the first one I tried out of this box. The one in the back is the Gianduja which is what VV had. I'm wary of letting him eat these since the first time I gave him a truffle (Red Fire) he popped the whole thing into his mouth, chewed on it for a second and then ran over to the sink to spit it out I was like wtf that chocolate costs more than you do and didn't let him have any more. Anyway, the Gianduja was "safe" since it was a more user-friendly hazelnut praline (as opposed to cinnamon/chili powder).

I know the bizarre flavors seem like some kind of a gimmick (chili fennel pollen vinegar wha?) but they aren't I swear. The ganache is good stuff and the "weird" flavors are so incredibly subtle and are just "there" enough to keep the chocolate interesting. Chocolate by itself tends to bore me after a while, but not Vosges truffles. I have yet to find a more accessible equivalent here in Southern California; I don't think Vosges truffles are available in-store anywhere around here and the idea of ordering something so perishable online seems kind of...iffy to me? I may give in at some point, though. They need to open a store in LA or Orange County!

---

Women's restroom smells like squash-scented air freshener. Which I happen to really like. I have no idea what's producing that fragrance but I kind of want to find out so I can get my hands on some?

---

Every time Rumi wears anything Alexander Wang she gets tons of comments from people complimenting her on her awesome wang and it makes me giggle.

Feel free to tell me to grow up. It's good advice that I should probably follow!

---

Got dim sum yesterday FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER with April, Josh, Steve, and Stinky Ray.

---

Weather is awesomely hot but I'm stuck in this freezing office building. Makes me angry/sad. Mostly sad.

Totally work-inappropriate

I look really surprised in this photo and I obviously moved my head when I wasn't supposed to, but I like the way the shape of the dress came through so I used it anyway. My calves look freakishly bulbous. Anyway, yes I wore this backless thing to work, but I covered up the back with a cardigan.

In any case, I'm glad I don't work in a really corporate environment. I don't know what I'd do if I was actually required to wear shoes in the office.

Vegas, day two

Highlights from the second day...

All before 5pm, of course

  • Ghetto brews for lunch!
  • Extremely tall frozen drinks that did nothing but a) make us really full and b) make us really have to pee.

I put on shorts under my dress before taking these!

  • Jumping on the bed.

They're crazy...it was FREEZING

  • Getting in some time by the pool
  • Watching Leanne hit her head...twice

l) not ready r) totally ready

  • Billions of photos in...the bathroom?

WINE

  • Semi-subpar dinner at Chinois (excellent amuse, complimentary appetizer, and appetizers, iffy entree and okay dessert)

Club Moon was totally the place to be

  • Spending a total of 15 minutes in Moon, the Playboy Club, and Ghostbar.
  • Hearing Destination Calabria, Cobrastyle and Push the Feeling On all in one night (okay maybe that was just a highlight for me) "I LOVE THIS SONG!!!"
  • Dude with two little braids sprouting out of the back of his head who was apparently willing to go wherever Lina went (ew?)
  • Leanne getting licked at Rain (ew?)
  • REALLY TALL CHICK in a gold sequined dress
  • Drunk couple having sloppy makeouts and elbowing everyone around them
  • Random dude in sunglasses and orange shirt
  • Denise in a manwich
  • Awesome dude who takes awesome photos (photo shamelessly stolen from Leanne's facebook album)

Drinks on the dancefloor == bad idea. Major spillage everywhere. Need to hose off my shoes.

HAPPY HALF-BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

oh, and happy 26th to the Hairy One too :)

Movies I'm embarrassed to admit having watched plus some random bits of my life

xXx
I told VV I saw this in theaters and he was like WTF EVEN I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT MOVIE and he laughed at me. What makes it even worse I think I may have paid for my own ticket even though it was my boyfriend (at the time) who'd wanted to see it.

Snakes on a Plane
YEAH I SAW THAT ONE. In the theater no less. This was also because a former boyfriend (different one this time) wanted to see it. Also, I may have paid for both our tickets. Not sure though. I did, however, make sure I had two drinks before watching it. I miraculously did not have to pee in the middle of the movie.

There are some movies that I should be embarrassed to admit that I've watched but am not. Like Honey. It's seriously an awful movie full of cliches and bad acting but I like movies w/ dancing in it (prob because I wish I could dance maybe?) and Jessica Alba is hot. My last ex-boyfriend liked the movie You Got Served (which I couldn't even sit through even though it had dancing in it) in the same way I like Honey and we were arguing about which of us was more in the wrong and ex-bf asked his brother "come on, You Got Served or Honey?" and his brother was like uhhhh Honey cause' Jessica Alba is HOT and I was like DAMN RIGHT.

Another one is Soap Girl which I do own on DVD. Bought it at a discount when all the Tower Records around here were trying to unload their merchandise. WORST MOVIE EVAR. It's so bad it's uncomfortable to watch and I seriously want everyone I know to watch it because no one I know has seen it and I want someone to commiserate with. I bought in a show of support for Asian-Americans in entertainment and it totally backfired.

Anyone want to watch Soap Girl?

---

Ate two packages of Korean dried seaweed this morning. SO GOOD. Once at a friend's place April and I gobbled up all the Korean nori that was out on the table in like 5 minutes. Like potato chips but better.

---

Got another issue of Elle @ work today. Still don't know how I ended up w/ a subscription.

---

Craving brick toast! Don't know what kind, though.

---

Need to clean up apartment.

Vegas: Night 1 (aka "Ghetto Night")

So I was in Vegas last weekend with a few girlfriends doing the usual touristy Vegasy things like eating at buffets, staying out all night and being drunk and obnoxious in public. All in moderation, of course.

Brief visual intro to the company I kept over the weekend:

Second photo needs a contrast boost.

And now, highlights of the first night there.

  • Jumping on the hotel beds.
  • Hotel bar libations.
  • Some fearsome $1 margarita things that Leanne bought two of for each of us. I actually ended up quite sneakily disposing of the last quarter of my second drink because I was afraid it would make me sick. No more vomiting in Vegas for me!

I really was scared, you know

  • McDonalds french fries for dinner
  • Big Balls
  • Being approached by a pair of underaged frat boys drinking a mix of vanilla rum and raspberry vodka out of a water bottle. They eventually left us alone after one of them fell into a group of people and security guards started coming around with flashlights.
  • The moveable walkway + Leanne
Leanne: (Running towards the moveable walkway) PEOPLEMOVERRR!!! *faceplant*

A tricky thing, that walkway

And that's night #1 in a nutshell! More Vegas posts comingggg...eventually.

HAPPY TAX DAY!

So seriously...I HAVE STUFF COMING. STUFF THAT IS MORE INTERESTING THAN ALL THE WORDS I'VE BEEN POSTING LATELY.

But yeah really happy tax day hope all you bitches got screwed by the IRS BECAUSE I KNOW I DID!

Eh...a bit cranky today. Am tired.

26th!

Quick post just to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Xinlei!

Still at office. Haven't eaten dinner. Want to go home.

brain dead

So Vegas totally sucked the life out of me (in a good way, of course) and all alcohol consumed probably killed off 101% of my brain cells but somehow I'm still walking and talking and even doing work. I'm so totally living dead.

Photos are coming, here and on the Flickr. Need to pick through them and crop them and sort them first.

Ridiculously busy day at work...still ongoing. Came back to an inbox that's stupid full and a bunch of crap to get done. Same old story that any 9-to-5-er (or 9:30-to-7 (or later)-er) will tell you after taking a day or two off of work. I'm so cliche.

Okay back to work. Just wanted to say hi.

In line for the foods

Not entirely sure why I see fit to blog. Maybe because huge amounts
of champagne at this hour is something awesome. Went to rain
yesterday. Currently waiting in line for brunch.

Vegas with bunch of girls = awesome

ARARARARARRRR

Leaving the office for the airport quite soon. Have been avoiding fluids since we had two long car rides and now some good quality airport/airplane time. Which is probably unhealthy and probably means I'm dehydrated. Going to have to get some water...or ginger ale...on the plane.

Viva Las Vegas dudes.

I'm so freaking tired I'm goinna die.

You're gonna miss me, I swear it

Tomorrow's going to be madd busy for serious. Early morning meeting. And by early I mean 8:00ish and when I say 8:00is in San Diego which is going to be over an hour's drive from here which means I have to get up at some ungodly hour like maybe before 6 which I know is totally normal for some of you but it's NOT normal for me and I totally have to pack tonight which is ordeal that always seems to drag on until at least 1 in the morning, no matter what time I start. Never mind that I'm only packing for a long weekend. Tomorrow morning is going to be ugly.

And with any luck tomorrow night will be even UGLIER! Yes, I will be in Vegas, magical land of drinking in the middle of the day until the middle of the night in the middle of the street. In all honesty, I have no idea why I love Vegas so much because I don't gamble and I don't really shop there and I've never been to a Vegas show, but every time I've gone since turning 21 I've had an awesome time. I guess a weekend of eating, drinking and dancing is my idea of fun.

About the above photos...used my 60mm macro since it's my fastest lens with autofocus. Photo #2 was what I did with my necklace while procrastinating at work. I think it'd look awesome over some sheer fingerless gloves. I, however, do not own sheer fingerless gloves so yeah.

May post one more time tomorrow. We shall see.

ODing on gummy vites right now. As usual.

Back to the motherland!

Well, if my blog was a person and the motherland was the root of my domain (well sort of the root not really blah whatever you know what I mean) then that means my blog just came home. I know the graphic is kind of borderline ugly right now but it's been a mighty long time since I used a ridiculous font for my graphics and anyway I did it in like 2 minutes so just relax okay.

Revisiting an old color scheme from 2005-ish. Am currently waiting for my dinner to cool down and I'm hungry so this post is rushed and is not making much sense yay.

!

Recycling (meaning I've been too lazy to take/edit new pictures)

Photo from a week ago that I had uploaded but never posted. Had it saved in there for a rainy day i.e. a day when I really have nothing new to say or post. I'm so prepared.

I'm going to be moving the blog to evilmidori.com within the next few days. If you come here and the blog is "gone" then don't fret, it's just back where it should be!

Sushi and beer. Sort of.

Had a nice Saturday that involved getting my car back which is awesome because that means I don't have to rely on a chauffeur VV (same difference) or a crappy little Dodge for transport anymore, scarfing down some Ani's chicken w/ their amazing garlic sauce for the first time in WAY TOO LONG, indulging VV's inner (and outer) geek at Frank and Son upon recommendation by my little brother and his friend, a so-so dinner (it's all good because I like trying new restaurants), and gelato at Whole Foods (we told the waitress @ Marmalade we were too full for dessert and just went elsewhere) where I discovered a good amount of Vosges products for sale including their couture cocoa mixes which made me doubly glad I opted for the ice cream instead of hot chocolate whilst at the Vosges boutique in SoHo last October.

And on Sunday I consumed no fewer than six different kinds of animals (if you count the spicy tuna rolls I had for lunch) and beer over ice.

I wonder how my friends would feel about a trip to the Vosges in Vegas? Gotta work on my arm-twisting skills between now and this weekend cause' I don't think overpriced wasabi and balsamic vinegar-flavored chocolates appeal to everyone.

Incandescent dusk

I like making photography "issues" work for me when I can. Graininess, distortion (happens w/ the fisheye and wide angles), and in this case, differences is lighting. Artificial light in the foreground, natural light (quickly disappearing!) in the background. Photos are a bit uninspired as far as composition goes but I love the color!

In other news, there's something wrong with my face.

In other news I have my car back and am no longer driving that godawful rental! And, Vegas this weekend. Life is good.

(except for the taxes part, taxes suck)

Totally shallow/materialistic

These are quite possibly the most conventionally beautiful pair of shoes in my possession (I say "conventionally beautiful" because, well, these...or maybe even these). Now, ignore the jank-factor of my feet and legs and just look at that beautiful fabric-wrapped heel. I have no idea how I'm going to wear these outside of the house without shredding them BUT YOU CAN BET I'M GONNA TRY.

ps. Sorry about the crapness of the photos. These photos were impromptu and quick which is why I'm just wearing the AA slip I was actually wearing under the dress I'd worn during the day. Which I guess means I was essentially taking photos of myself in my underwear. Heh.

My emo corner

You know what would make these photos even more emo? If you could see the title of the picture behind me: Solitude. AHAHAHAHA. Because I've been posting so many rants , my intention for today was to write a post about how I'm not really some bitter I-hate-the-world-and-everything-in-it chick because I really don't hate everything in the world. Just the people <3

But seriously, worst photoset ever for a happy post. I swear I'm not this emo in real life.

Tiny things that make me happy

  • When I'm washing dishes and create a spray of tiny bubbles with the bottle of dish soap.
  • Spare buttons that come already sewn into the interior of a garment.
  • Nights that are warm enough to qualify as tank top weather.
  • Mushy french fries.
  • Finding fish in tidepools.
  • Unintentionally falling asleep beneath the ceiling fan on a warm day. Bonus points if I'm fresh out of the shower. Granted, the consequences suck (can't fall asleep later that night, end up getting nothing done because...I was sleeping) but it just feels SO DAMN GOOD while it's happening. Better than normal sleep. Kind of like how the sleep I used to get during college lectures felt so much better than normal sleep.

Speaking of sleep, there are some magical yellow generic allergy pills that I can't find anywhere. They'd totally wipe out my allergy symptoms and make me delightfully happy and sleepy. I have two doses left and am afraid to use them. Saving them for a really bad allergy attack.
