Woohoo!

And the car saga ends! For the most part! I got my "new" (used) car on Tuesday. My (first!) car-buying experience went way more smoothly than I'd ever hoped and I took the car home/returned my dad's car on Tuesday night. Thanks who those who provided with me advice/tips/help on the process :)

Still getting used to the car, but I think I like it. VV and I went to RadioShack yesterday to get an auxiliary input cable for my ox-hole (aka aux-hole aka auxiliary input jack) which I'm a bit overly excited about.

I realize the above photo is unnecessarily crappy and narcissistic but I had to do it. I think the first digital photos I ever took inside of my last car included LOTS of rearview mirror shots of me + my friends (hi Ho and Ra!) but this time I only had myself to take photos of because I guess I'm just that much lamer than I was back in 2002.

In other news...

???

Yeah I don't even know.

Happy Bloggy Day!

"It's my blog's birthday today!" I accosted VV in the bathroom this morning as he was washing up at the sink.

"Awww you remembered." said VV, disappointed "I wanted to get a little cake to surprise you!"

So even though I sort of spoiled the surprise, we went to Baskin Robbins after work and he bought a small ice cream cake topped with plastic balloons. We took it back to the house and VV wrote out a little birthday "card" so I could take a picture of the cake with it.

Best blog birthday ever!

Happy 10th Birthday!

Written on the 14th...

(02:27:05 PM) me: my blog's birthday is next week on friday $lt;3
(02:27:40 PM) vv: !
(02:27:48 PM) vv: we should have a party
(02:27:51 PM) me: :D

It's been exactly 10 years since I'd made my first blog post! I was the first person I knew IRL to have a blogger blog and back then I think most people who knew I had an online journal thought I was weird for doing it. How things have changed!

Happy birthday, blog!

Weekend recap

Excellent weekend. I'd been bugging VV to go to The Crow Bar for weeks and we finally went on Saturday afternoon. I'm not going to give too many details (or post too many pictures) since I'm going to save it for Flickr (i.e. it probably won't get posted for another 6 months or so...ack) but I posted ONE photo because it's so crazy sinfully delicious looking. SO FOOD PORNOLICIOUS. I highly encourage you to view it in its full size...I even resized it slightly larger than I normally do because it's so tasty looking. Wait, let me find some appropriate music for you to view it to...

HERE. The perfect soundtrack for food porn. Except you might want to keep it down if there are any other people in the room. Or if you're at work. Especially if you're at work.

me: (handing VV his bag) here's your carryall!
vv: (taking the bag) it's a purse!

He thinks all of the commercials with men defending their purses are funny.

After we finished our lunch/brunch we went walking down the street and chanced upon the Sherman Library and Gardens (which we'd never heard of before) so we decided to pay the $3/ea admission and check it out. It was like a much smaller version of the Huntington Library with a restaurant/tea room and everything.

Later that day we saw Inception with his parents.

Today we gorged on rotisserie chicken (oh man SO GOOD) and picked up my dad's car so I can drive it until I buy a new car, which probably won't be for a couple weeks or so.

It's been a good month so far I think. I feel like all of the crap for this year somehow got crammed into the first six months (culminating with my June 30th collision) and that maybe the latter half of the year will be better.

Anyway, it's finally starting to feel like summer! June gloom can suck my ass. I love this hot weather. Except I forgot to wear deodorant today. And for some reason didn't realize it until late this afternoon. Wth.

Day is done

Made lime chicken with tomato/avocado/onion/corn salad and slushes with macerated strawberries and Perrier.

I finished cleaning the kitchen maybe 20 minutes ago and now I need to sleep. Have to go to the DMV freaking early tomorrow.

Where the hell did the day go?

Total Loss

Yesterday I got two things in the mail, which is very unusual since I hardly receive anything at VV's address. One was a thank you card from Damon because he and Sara are so freaking grown up and actually do things like send thank you cards and change-of-address cards (hi Damon lol@ the pinto bean haha) and the other one was a card from Ho. She sent me a sympathy card because of my car. How sweet/funny/awesome is that? And the timing couldn't have been better; just that morning I had received a phone call from the evaluation center giving me official notice that my car is indeed totaled :( How did she know?

Anyway, thank you Hollie! You totally made my day <3

As promised, I'm going to do a huginomousantic photo post of adventures/misadventures that somehow involve my (former) car <3

Unfortunately, I didn't get a digital camera until xmas 2002 so pictures prior to 2003 are somewhat lacking. I also didn't get to scour through 2007-present because I ran out of time...

Here's the only blog entry that alludes to me getting my new car.

It's been a good run, my little Civic. I miss you.

7/4

Hope all of your fourths were good! Well, all of you US of Americans, anyway.

VV and I went to the Counselor's/Korean's apartment for dinner. I'd told VV a couple weeks earlier that I wanted to try cooking for the 4th of July. VV told the Counselor and suggested that we go to his place since they'd probably have a great view of fireworks in the surrounding area. The Counselor was enthusiastic and bought/made way too much food. I was excited, too, and bought/made way too much food.

I wanted to try making sliders, so I made a few different kinds of beef patties and the Counselor made a couple different kinds of lamb patties. The one pictured above is a beef patty with dried parsley. I'd stuffed these patties with a small dollop of garlic lemon butter. The slider pictured is topped with arugula, gruyere and aioli made with truffle oil. Also, I semi-successfully made brioche. Successful because they were usable/edible, not so successful because I'm pretty sure that whatever I made wasn't brioche.

We watched a comedy show on Netflix and then went out to the balcony to check out the fireworks at around 9pm. I know it's hard to tell from the photo but we were actually able to see four or five shows from where we were. Here's a crappy shot of the show that was closest to us.

Anyway, it was a nice fourth. I also think it was the first time I'd watched 4th of July fireworks since 2005. Like whoa.

Hi July

Ummm so no real news on my car yet. Things have gotten pretty insane at work. I know I keep saying that, but seriously...work keeps intensifying.

I'm going to see if I can arrange a weekend getaway for VV and I later this year. I also want to try and see if I can arrange a week in Hawaii (Oahu, because he's never been!) this coming winter. Travel!

Goodbye

Car accident. Person in front of me rescued my H for me

"Look at what one of the passengers from the car in front of me found for me." I said to VV, pulling the plastic "H" out of my jacket pocket. It had broken off when my car collided with the one in front of me.

I had called VV after all of us drivers had exchanged the necessary information so he drove over to the scene of the accident to come get me since my car was going to need to be towed and we were both standing around waiting for the tow trucks to arrive.

"You should save that; people used to steal those things you know." said the police officer who was on the scene, smiling at me. He was being incredibly nice to me, probably because when he'd arrived I was clearly shaken and flustered.

The rear of my car was a mangled mess and there was something leaking underneath it. There was no way I was going to be able to drive it. In fact, I think the car is totaled.

I AM SO SAD.

Happier times

That car has been through a lot. Most of college. Road trips. Three serious relationships. My entire life as a working adult. SO SAD SO SAD. VV and I went to the tow yard to retrieve the rest of my stuff from the car before my insurance company takes it to go be evaluated. I'm actually not certain whether the car is really totaled or not, but things don't look so good.

SAD SAD SAD

RIP my Silver Bullet Rice Rocket Sedan

You were a good little car and I'm going to miss you :*(

(in all seriousness though I'm not 100% sure it's totaled but effin' a look at that photo dude. and yes I'm going to be even sadder if I find out for sure that it's been written off and not just because it's going to be a pain in the ass to find another car. I really am going to miss that sucker and I'll probably do another photo post on my car because I really am just that pathetic)
