Gelled
I was inspired by Luxirare's Bento Box entry and her idea of making Jello shots based on actual cocktails. She made hers using small cups as a mold; I wanted to be able to make them in bulk and cut them up into pieces a la finger Jello.
My first attempt was to make a White Russian in gelatin form. The main components are vodka, coffee liqueur and cream.
For the base, I used coffee, coffee liqueur, and Cool Whip. Is Cool Whip no longer available in tubs? That makes me sad. For the stars/flowers (supposed to be flowers but they look like stars) I used condensed milk and for the clear layer I used vanilla vodka. Aside from the slight runoff that resulted from me not cooking the vodka mixture sufficiently enough before pouring it and the somewhat brain-like texture that part of the coffee layer took on (wtf gross) after cooling I think it turned out kind of pretty.
I love how the stars/flowers look like they're embedded in glass.
Things I need to fix:
- Use more Cool Whip.
- Add sugar to the coffee layer
- Cool the vodka mixture before pouring it over
- Make vodka layer stronger?
- Wipe excess cooking spray off glass dish. It tasted pretty funky.
Also, the gelatin was kind of dense. Need to figure out how to remedy that. In the end, not too bad!
