There was a pile of powder by my car this morning and it reminded me of my salt story.
For CSF appreciation day, we always go to Six Flags. My junior year, this happened around the same time we were doing our partner experiments in AP bio. My partner and I were salting guppies, so I had been bringing a Ziploc full of some sort of special salt to school in my backpack almost every day. Well, we got to Magic Mountain. They have pretty thorough security checks there. They put everyone through a metal detector and search everyone's bags before they allowing them to enter the park. Just imagine what the security guard must have thought when he looked into my backpack and found a bag of powdery white stuff. He gave me this look and I was thinking "Oh crap..." so I told him it was salt and of course that sounded like a lame excuse because who the hell carries a plastic bag full of salt in her backpack? Buuut since I'm probably one of the least suspicious looking people around he just asked me why I was carrying salt in my bag. I told him about our bio lab and he just said "Ah...I see..." He let me keep my bag of salt. He also asked if I wanted to study biology in college. I told him no.
