VV doesn't use facebook
(06:00:04 PM) me: oh god my mom posted this on her wall
(06:00:05 PM) me: 'Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her ...any crap, be ready to receive a ton of sh__.”

More bad food (and some good food, too)
Lemon olive oil cake FAIL.
VV's dad gave me some sweet lemons. He said that they're definitely sweeter than regular lemons, but not so sweet that you could eat them straight. Cool. I thought about what I wanted to make with those lemons and decided that they should go in something dessert-y. LEMON OLIVE OIL CAKE. So on Monday I zested (very difficult, these lemons had really thin skin and were a bit soft) and juiced one lemon and tasted the juice and wtf just a bit sweet and NOT TART AT ALL. I went ahead with the cake anyway and after it was done baking (I used a muffin tin because individually sized anythings are win) I took them out and they looked kind of weird...the tops kind of spread out over the top and ran into each other. Oh well. After they cooled I tasted one and it was SUPER moist and SUPER fluffy and SUPER bitter. WTF. I didn't know what happened. I mean, it was sweet but it had this weird bitter taste at the same time, almost as if I'd ground up Tylenol and added it to the batter. I still have no idea what happened. They're in the trash right now. Better luck next time.
Also, I looked up sweet lemons later that night and found this Chowhound topic. I wish I'd seen that earlier. Anyway, I still have one more of those suckers and don't know what to do with it.
A more successful endeavor was the aioli I made with the leftover egg yolks. When I was done with the emulsion I put about half of the aioli into a container and whisked Sriracha into the remainder. Yesterday I ate it with tomatoes/spinach/pita bread and it was SO GOOD. I think I'm going to mix Sriracha into the plain half too. YUM.

In lieu of a real post here are some pictures
Here are a couple of photos I took of myself back in October. I was in Texas but a couple of friends really wanted to see what my hair looked like (this was the day after I got it chopped) so I took a couple photos of myself to email to them that night.
My hair is kind of in an annoying in-betweeny stage right now. I know how I want to get it cut next but I need to wait for the shortest layers to grow out a couple more inches first. Right now I can't really do anything with it except let it dry straight or Remington Airwave it (that hair dryer is the BEST). I can't wait for it to get long enough for me to curl it again. I tried using a curling iron the other day and it was disastrous. I looked like a poodle. From the 80's.

Bad eggs
So on Thursday I was boiling eggs and left them unattended while I was busy getting distracted by my mom's birthday gift that had just arrived that day (will elaborate on that after I give it to her this weekend) and kind of forgot about them. Yeah, they got kinda overcooked.
The eggs were kind of gross by themselves so last night I made deviled eggs out of them. I used an electric hand mixer to beat the yolks of those SOBs into submission. I'm happy to say my efforts were mostly successful.
I've really got to update this blog more regularly.

SO.SAD.
I discovered her blog over a year ago and since then would visit her blog on a regular basis and worship her photos because she was an amazing photographer and had the most incredible self-portraits. She was definitely WAY too young to die.

Weekendy things
VV's mom don't mess around when it comes to table setting.
I went to VV's parents' house for their family Tết celebration/dinner. Dinner was awesome and I got red envelopes even though I'm not technically part of the family.
I made my little salmon thingies again. They don't look as pretty as they did the first time I made them.
Another photo from the same day as the photo from the previous post, but this is taken w/ the dslr. VV was freaking out a bit because I was taking photos by the bathtub which was "so dirty" so I cranked the exposure time way up to the point where you can barely find my nose let alone a few stray bits of dust and lint way in the background. Face tilted up because the lighting kind of sucked and made the bags under my eyes look even worse than usual.
Really dude, the only cosmetic surgery I've ever seriously considered (well, aside from getting my bite straightened) is getting my under-eye area de-puffed because I'm pretty sure those bad boys are mostly genetic.
Speaking of surgery, date to get my wisdom teeth yanked = March 4th. I'm terrified. Mostly of the IV. I told the oral surgeon I was terrified and meekly asked if there were any alternatives to the needle. He said no, but he did prescribe me a low Valium to take the night before and the morning of which means I'm probably going to be a total space case in the 12 hours or so leading up to the procedure. FUN. Anyway, I'm glad I'm getting those fuckers extracted because one of them is really starting to bother me. Surgeon said my lower two are impacted which means that I'm probably going to be especially swollen around the lower section of my face. Which means I'm probably going to look like this for the following few days. Rawesome. I think I'm going to try and stay home that weekend.

Brute-force method
It takes a lot of work and product to give my hair any semblance of texture and it's nothing short of a miracle if it retains any of that texture at the end of the workday.
My hair DESERVED a photo, okay?

I went to the dentist on Monday FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER. My last dentist was in LA and after I started working it became somewhat inconvenient to try and make it out there on a weekday just for a checkup/cleaning and I didn't much like him anyway since he always seemed angry every time I saw him so yeah. Anyway. I went to go see VV's dentist who is also a friend of his family which I guess is good. He explained to me very nicely that even though my teeth are awesome my gums kind of suck which means I'm going to have to get shot up with anaesthetic and get a serious deep cleaning and that really sucks because needles send my anxiety levels soaring (remember, I cried the last two times I got my blood drawn) but he also told me they keep nitrous oxide (aka "laughing gas") handy and that my case might warrant the use of it which intrigues me.
But first I have to get my wisdom teeth out. Yes I still have them. And they all suck.

Going to NorCal at the end of the month. It's all going to be very rush rush rush and family-centric, though, so I'm not sure whether I'm going to get much of a chance to do/see anything other than what we're there for.

Wordpress is being a bitch about importing my jillions of blog posts. Am going to try and slowly work through the issues which will probably take a while since I'm trying to see if I can salvage comments from Haloscan and BlogBack. #$@#.

Sorry, things are going to be a bit messy in here until I figure out how to move everything over smoothly. #$@#$.

Thanks, blogger
I've stuck with Blogger for the entire time I've been blogging thus far...almost 10 years now! I've resisted switching because a) I hate change and b) it was just so freaking easy to use Blogger.
But now those mofos have decided to axe FTP support. And to that I say OH NO YOU DI'INT but unfortunately they did and to that I say FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKERS I guess there's nothing I can really do at this point but move on over to WordPress.
I have until March, so things won't change right away. I guess I'm just glad that I found out about this before I actually did my new layout. Procrastination works!

By special request
So I've been both busy and faux-busy lately. There are a bunch of little side-projects that I need and/or want to do that I haven't gotten around to yet/need to finish up. One of which is my mom's birthday present that was supposed to be her Christmas present except I messed something up so I had to get her something else.
---
I'm starting to itch for some new photo equipment. I think my lens collection is sufficient (for now, anyway) but I'm starting to dream of lighting equipment. Specifically, two continuous light heads/stands and a couple of sets of umbrellas (shoot through, silver/white reflectors).

Warning to those who are squeamish: don't scroll down because there be a dead pigeon down there!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
So remember how I said something about a dead pigeon in the post about the bar crawl? Yeah, that.
